Hill Radnor Sheep
Recent recruits to the farm, we're still learning about the Hill Radnors - but, already, are rather taken with them!
One of the few things we know for sure is that they are worryingly rare - and disappointingly so. Perhaps they lack that sense of 'distinction'/'something different' which characterises many of our rare breeds. Look behind their almost mousey faces, though, and you'll find an unusually chunky conformation for a traditional sheep, the perfect felting fleece and the kind of wily attitude to life you'd expect from a hill breed.
As we anxiously await our first Hill Radnor lambs - and Radnor/Wensleydale crosses - we are already impressed by their 100% fertility rate and the high percentage of twins on the way. There'll be more on this page as the season goes on and we get to know them better. Fingers crossed that their reputation for easy lambing and excellent mothering holds true!
