You'll find us (if you can!) in Carmarthenshire's Cothi Valley , deep in the rural heart of West Wales. To the north lies Brechfa forest, a densely wooded mix of ancient broadleaf woodland and modern conifer plantation - to the south, wide open hillscapes with panaromic views across, what feels like, all of Wales.
Ystrad is part and parcel of its environment - and has been for centuries. This relationship is central to the way we farm and the produce we sell. It's also a relationship with an increasingly modern edge as we attach new value to many of the traditional agricultural practices which were in use when Ystrad first etched its place on the landscape:
permanent pastures - restoring the original patchwork of small fields and ensuring safe, healthy, productive, mixed herbage - not just grass;conservation livestock - rearing traditional breeds of cattle and sheep whose grazing habits and natural vigour are best suited, and most beneficial, to our local environment;working with nature - encouraging species-rich, wildlife habitats and allowing our animals to reach their prime - in their own good time; an organic approach - managing a sustainable balance between the farm's natural resources, inherent fertility and productive capacity - it's about today and tomorrow.
